Here are upcoming public events where Laura Creekmore is speaking, or that are of interest to the whole content community.
BarCamp Nashville is a free, technology-focused “unconference.” Its mission is to bring together the best minds and entrepreneurs representing organizations involved with Internet technology, new media, software, consulting, and more for knowledge-sharing and networking.

Our goal is to bring together the brightest minds in the content arena—content strategists, technical communicators, content marketers, product managers, customer assistance specialists, translators, localizers, taxonomists, and user experience professionals—to demystify the methods, standards, tools and technologies needed to deliver exceptional omni-channel customer experiences.
Customer Experience: Designing Content To Inspire Change
Speaker: Laura Creekmore
October 23, 2014 10:45 a.m.
Description
We create content to inspire action. But many of us are shooting in the dark, using a shopworn template for our information, instead of taking advantage of current research into human motivations and biases. Learn to shape environments and content to inspire the change you want in your users.
Your content sends a message to your customers, prospects, members, and employees — make sure it’s the right message. After this workshop, you will:
-Understand how content strategy can improve your organization’s efforts
-Know when and how to inventory and audit your content
-Be able to create a message architecture to drive all content creation efforts
-Understand the basics of content marketing
-Understand how to analyze and measure results
-Know where to go for more help
Creek Content specializes in content strategy, a discipline that examines organization goals, creates appropriate content, establishes governing structures and operations procedures, and manages the process for effective results.
This is a full-day, hands-on workshop. Come prepared to learn with your laptop and questions, examples, and/or challenges from your organization. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
Confab Higher Ed brings together people who work on content for colleges and universities. It’s a great time to explore the particular issues we deal with in an academic environment.
Creek Content president Laura Creekmore will present “How to Play Well With Others,” focusing on tools to make you a better collaborator and team leader.
I presented a workshop at the IA Summit in Atlanta in May 2016. We worked on figuring out appropriate content structure in an existing, “blobby” website—a website with little structure beyond the body field for content.

I’m delighted to be back at Content Marketing World this fall, presenting a half-day Content Strategy 101 workshop. It’s not a lot of time to cover this big topic—but we’re going to dive in as deep as we can.
Here’s the official description:
The demands of today’s marketplace require that every facet of your customer communications must be top-notch, attention-getting and targeted — the right content at the right time, in the right format, to the right audience. Content cannot be an afterthought. It has to be carefully crafted, from audience understanding to messaging to creation to execution.
This workshop will take you through the nuts and bolts of content strategy — both the mindset and the toolbox. You’ll learn:
- How content strategy tools help you better understand your audience
- How to identify the right people to create and manage content
- The tools you need to analyze your content
- How to get rid of ROT [Redundant, outdated, trivial content]
- Why and how to create effective governance processes
- How to get management on board
Whew! Plus we’ll talk about resources that you can use for more study and information after the workshop.
